The count is finally in and we’re ecstatic to announce that Worcester Music Festival 2013 raised a whopping \u00a35,462 to be split between our chosen charities for the year, Worcester Deaf Children’s Society and Sight Concern Worcestershire.<\/p>\n
Raised largely over the festival weekend thanks to the efforts of our dedicated charity team and fancy dress aficionados – do you know how long it takes to create an adult My Little Pony costume, let alone pour yourself into a pair of PVC strides to become the ‘organ grinder’? – plans for the money are already being put in place.<\/p>\n
Worcester Deaf Children’s Society, a voluntary group run by parents which provides invaluable social and emotional support to 60 families locally, hopes to use the money to run a residential summer camp for deaf children and their families next summer, something that has been a dream for a long while, but something they just couldn’t afford to do.<\/p>\n
Sight Concern Worcestershire, which helps blind and partially sighted people lead independent and fulfilling lives, meanwhile, wants to throw itself into making music a key feature at the centre and has plans to set up and run a music group, whilst supporting the musicians who already use the centre and improve access to musical activities overall.<\/p>\n
It has been a pleasure to work with both charities and we wish them all the best.<\/p>\n
A big thanks to everyone who gave their time to raise money over the festival, as well as every generous last one of you that dug deep and put a coin in a collection box, bought a wristband or entered the raffle. We’d also like to thank the Bransford Trust for their continued generosity, putting their hands in their pockets each year to give us a significant donation.<\/p>\n
