A POPULAR live music event held every month at a riverside pub is being hijacked this weekend to raise money for this year\u2019s Worcester Music Festival over the August Bank Holiday (24-27).<\/p>\n
This Sunday (June 24th<\/sup>), Acoustic Lunch at the Old Rectifying House will not only showcase a mellow mix of local talent, but will be generating funds to help put on the four-day explosion of original music in pubs, clubs, cafes, historic buildings and on outdoor stages across the city.<\/p>\n The free entry event, from 1pm-6pm, will feature signed band Jasper In The Company of Others<\/em>, whose bassist is the son of the woman behind New Hope, Worcester Music Festival\u2019s charity of the year, John Denton\u2019s Midnight Band<\/em>, Mash & Dan<\/em>, Hitchhiker<\/em>, Son Of Stan<\/em> and Claire Boswell<\/em>.<\/p>\n To raise funds for the festival, there will be a raffle, while scrumptious cupcakes donated by city-based Stamford Cakery \u2013 a staunch live music supporter whose sweet wares were recently sampled by Toploader and soul legend Ruby Turner \u00a0\u2013 will also be on sale.<\/p>\n Event co-ordinator and festival founder Chris Bennion said: \u201cAcoustic Lunch is always a hit when it comes to enjoying some mellow, live music by the river on a Sunday afternoon, but this one is extra special in terms of making this year\u2019s festival is as brilliant as it possibly can be, enabling us to showcase our exceptional local bands and artists and welcome others from further afield.<\/p>\n \u201cAs it\u2019s a day event, families are more than welcome to come along, tuck into a cake and meet our festival mascots, Davina and Nige, who will be joined by two new, family-friendly characters.\u201d<\/p>\n More than 11,000 turned out to a Worcester Music Festival gig last year, with \u00a37,000 being raised for Maggs Day Centre in Deansway.
