{"id":1225,"date":"2014-05-01T19:04:04","date_gmt":"2014-05-01T19:04:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worcestermusicfestival.co.uk\/?p=1225"},"modified":"2025-09-09T01:49:16","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T01:49:16","slug":"first-bands-confirmed-for-2014-music-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worcestermusicfestival.co.uk\/features\/first-bands-confirmed-for-2014-music-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"First bands confirmed for 2014 music festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first 100 acts have been booked for this year\u2019s Worcester Music Festival as the event\u2019s trusty band of promoters gets stuck into filling around 150 remaining slots from over 1,100 applications.<\/p>\n<p>Local highlights on the bill include instrumental rockers <strong>The Broken Oak Duet<\/strong>, who played at Rise record shop on World Record Store Day, <strong>Granny\u2019s Attic<\/strong>, who made the final five in this year\u2019s Young Folk Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and stutter-poppers <strong>God Save The King.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Audiences can also catch Worcester folk act <strong>Bitterroots<\/strong>, indie rock three-piece <strong>The Crooked Empire<\/strong>, gifted guitarist <strong>Claire Boswell<\/strong>, and 14-year-old singer-songwriter <strong>Jodie Hughes<\/strong>, whose band came second in the UK Battle of the Bands in 2010, when she was just nine.<\/p>\n<p>From the county, the festival is set to welcome the likes of Stourbridge math rockers <strong>Constant Waves<\/strong>, Malvern pop punk band <strong>Dogs of Santorini<\/strong>, Kidderminster\u2019s <strong>Marina Del Ray<\/strong>, Evesham folk outfit <strong>Skinny Rive<\/strong>r, and Inkberrow looper <strong>Tom Forbes<\/strong>, who played at the 02 Academy 3 in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>A few highlights from beyond the county borders include Birmingham\u2019s reggae pop band <strong>XOVA<\/strong>, who took Cafe Bliss at Worcester Arts Workshop by storm at last year\u2019s festival, and instrumental rockers <strong>Arbour Lights<\/strong>, as well as Somerset\u2019s rumbustious, balkan-inspired folk sextet, <strong>M.O.D<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>From the east, festival-goers can see Cambridge folk rockers <strong>Fred\u2019s House<\/strong>, who have had airplay on BBC 6 Music, and London\u2019s Kill Bill-esque, Japanese pop rock trio, <strong>No Cars.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>You can <a title=\"Line-up\" href=\"https:\/\/www.worcestermusicfestival.co.uk\/line-up\/\">find the first 100 acts on our bands page<\/a>, and we will be announcing more bands and artists soon.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The festival has also had a re-brand to bring it into line with today\u2019s vibrant festival scene, with a new-look website to boot.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first 100 acts have been booked for this year\u2019s Worcester Music Festival as the event\u2019s trusty band of promoters gets stuck into filling around 150 remaining slots from over 1,100 applications.
