Artists Profile / Biography
Dr. Ria Keen is one of the most highly qualified and experienced vocal coaches in the country, holding a PhD, Master's Degree and B.Phil (Hons, 1st Class) in contemporary vocals.
Ria teaches at all levels from beginners to highly-trained professionals in need of a vocal ‘MOT’. She is Principal of VIDLA - a vocal academy offering accredited distance-learning qualifications for singing teachers, courses for singers, plus workshops / training intensives and kids’ training.
She was Head of Singing at The Birmingham Theatre School for nearly ten years. She has also lectured and /or mentored at The Musicians' Academy and Dartington
Ria is delighted to be the Musical Director of Voices Unlimited, a 110-strong mixed choir, which is managed by Ria's friend and colleague Anne Bradshaw.
Since the choir was founded in September 2008 it has gone from strength to strength, starting with a knockout performance at the 2009 Worcester Music festival, where it drew the biggest crowd of the festival, then singing with the lovely Steve Maitland in his Buble Tribute Show at Pershore No.8 in October 2009, and finishing the year with three very well-received performances at the Worcester Victorian Fayre, during which the middle of Worcester was brought to all but a standstill not once but twice!
2010 shaped up to be a very exciting year indeed with the choir perfoming at Huntingdon Hall and The King’s School Theatre, as well as doing the Worcester Music Festival and Christmas Fayre again to name but a few! We are looking forward very much to being involved in the Worcester Music Festival in 2011.
