About Folk Music Workshop

Come and learn to play traditional folk music with Scottish fiddler, Claire King. Or if you can already play, come and join in! Fiddles, accordions, whistles, flutes, guitars, etc. Any age, young and old, but must be able to play instrument to minimum Grade 3 level and read music - or pick up tunes by ear easily. Guitarists/accordionists must be able to read chord symbols and tune their own instrument. Reserve place at: workshops@worcestermusicfestival.co.uk with a return email address, participant name and phone number or take your chances on the day! Only requirements are your instrument and enthusiasm to learn. Please arrive early to get tuned up and ready to play

Claire King (nee McDonald) grew up playing Scottish and Irish traditional music at Burns nights, Hogmanays and many singalong sessions with her family in Lochwinnoch in Scotland. She was classically trained on the violin at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, has an MA from Glasgow University and has taught violin and piano for 25 years. She plays with the group ‘Kings and Folk’ in concerts and festivals and the ceiledh band ‘Ringerike’ for weddings and special occasions.
