Fundraising
Since Worcester Music Festival was launched five years ago, nearly £20,000 has been raised for local charities.
More than £7,000 of this was raised in 2011 alone for the city's Maggs Day Centre, a lifeline for the homeless, vulnerable and socially isolated.
Through donations and raffle ticket sales - made possible by generous companies stumping up prizes and a band of volunteers giving up their time to shake some buckets during the festival - we have been able to give something back to the community.
Ultimately, through music.
It is also about raising awareness. In 2011, the WMF team rolled up its sleeves and cooked breakfast for 'clients' at Maggs Day Centre, with a bacon buttie of ballads served up by festival committee chairman and guitar god Brian Hoggard.
Crucially, it gave the team an invaluable insight into why Maggs needed additional support from the festival and how the money would be used. Thanks to WMF 2011, Maggs, which had had its funding cut, was able to open an extra day over the winter months.
We now need to choose our charity of the year for 2012. Any ideas?
To nominate a local charity, which may not attract the level of funding of national organisations and could benefit enormously from our support, please contact fundraising co-ordinator Nikki Boraston at nikki@worcestermusicfestival.co.uk.
We will announce our decision in the New Year.
Thank you.
