Profile
The Groove Front started in December 2010 as a latin jazz/bossa nova pub band local to Great Malvern. In late 2011 after a change in line-up, the Groove Front veered towards a more bluesy type of sound, closer to the archetypal Blue Note sound of the 60's. At the same time, the group found a new audience in the Cheltenham area as well, very much in tune to the group's foot-tapping, organ-charged hardbop vibe.
We presently feel that our sound is quite unique to this part of the country and in many occasions, we have turned young listeners on to jazz for the first time, very much to our delight.
The members of The Groove Front are:
The immensely talented Peter Hopcroft on tenor sax. John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Dexter Gordon are his bag!
The amazing multi-instrumentalist Rob Miller on organ, trumpet and flugelhorn. Jimmy Smith, Joey deFrancesco, Art Farmer and Barbara Dennerlein count as his main influences.
Guitarist and mad "guitartronics" engineer Nando Fonseca, MSc. Posters of Messrs Burrell, Hall, Green, Wes and Metheny all over his place!
The mighty rhythm-meister Paul "The Pulse" Arthurs on drums. A die-hard fan of drummers Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Billy Cobham and Buddy Rich.
