About Small Engine Repair
Small Engine Repair are a 3 piece folk/blues/alternative band from Hereford founded by frontman Phil Twigg (Vocals, Guitar, Ukulele, Keys) and flanked by fellow local musicians Tom Harrington (Bass, Vocals) & Dan Lewis (Drums, Percussion, Vocals). Since playing their first chords together at a local studio in early 2009, their ‘Life-affirming Americana’ (Artrocker Magazine) has gone from strength to strength as the band have played many corners of the British Isles, notched up radio play in both the UK and mainland Europe, collaborated with a music legend and even shoehorned a royal visit into the bargain:
In Feb 2009 the song, 'Have You Seen What I've Become?' was used as the sound track to a documentary by the charity organisation, UK Youth. April saw the band play at the UK Youth Awards Dinner and accept an ambassadorial role with the charity as part of their centenary preparations for 2010.
In May the band hooked up with legendary keyboardist John 'Rabbit' Bundrick (The Who, Bob Marley, Free) who played keys on, ‘This Whole Setup Is A Lie’.
August saw the first release by Hilldrop Records' with their critically acclaimed compilation, We Can Be Friends. This featured the Small Engine Repair demo of 'Serve Yourself' (AAAA – Artrocker Magazine)
Having recently recorded a set of demos with producer Rob Parrett, one of the songs from the session, 'How Long' was picked up by former Radio One DJ, Chris Coco who included the song along side artists such as Peter Bjorn & John and Emmy the Great on a compilation CD entitled, Acoustic Chill. The album was released by ilabel records in October. In Feb 2010 the band will be appearing for the likes of Princess Anne at St James's Palace.
2010 promises to be an equally busy year for Small Engine Repair as they record their first full-length release (featuring instruments ranging from glockenspiel to kazumpet -a sophisticated fusion of a kazoo and an oil funnel) and lots more live shows.
