Alex Round at Worcester Music Festival
Alex Round: An acoustic songwriter influenced by rap, britpop, folk, blues, talking about modern day life and things relevant in today's world. "Love songs - I don't do, real life I do."
Genre: New Britpop
With the spirit of 90s britpop and heavy influences from hip hop culture, Alex Round makes music that is energetic and in your face.
Forget the mainstream acoustic artists talking about love, this guy talks about real life uncut. Listening to the acoustic demos and songs on his soundcloud, he takes influences from punk to 90s indie to hip hop.
A self proclaimed "one man band" (check the song on soundcloud) he entangles lyrics into songs with almost a punk rock ethic. Not the most technical guitarist, but does that matter when what you get is raw passion, songs to sing on terraces and absolutely no hint of bowing down to mainstream music about romance, although portrays another side to him on "Mia's song", a song about paternal love.
"Jeremy Kyle Generation" is a fantastic fight for the plight of modern day single dads while "Can you see him getting old?" is a beautifully sad story of the decline of a lonely man.
"They don't know me" is an acoustic rendition of his hip hop alter ego (Roundhouse) which, live, combines technical lyrics with a bluesy undertone.
"clubgirlz" another hip hop track re-done for acoustic performances is a brilliant and comedic tale of being followed around a dingy club by a girl he couldn't shake off.
If you want love and forlorn songs, go listen elsewhere. If you want music with passion amidst socially relevant subjects and true stories of modern day life, check this guy out.....you will be entertained by a true storyteller with wit, passion and eclectic styles moulded into one.
